Since the dawn of human civilization, Totem-like beliefs have been deeply embedded in all cultures worldwide. Aboriginals use Totems to identify with the Clan. National Emblems include the Freedom of the American Eagle, the Guardianship of the Roman Wolf, the Earthly Dragon of China, the Strength of the Russian Bear, the Kingship of the Lion of Africa, and hundreds more. Mascots or Animal Symbols are used by military units, sports teams, social organizations, Boy Scout patrols, Wood Badge patrols, Girl Scout troops, schools and corporations. As in ancient times, many individuals have a personal spirit creature, which has special meaning to them. We are, for example, comforted by Teddy Bears and Angels or inspired by the prowess of Tigers, Wolfs or Sharks. We draw on these emblems, mascots, or “totems” to identify and unite us. We use the attributes of these “totems” to guide us in our endeavors.
